What Is An Extra?

For those who have appeared in film or television, you'll know that extras are also known as 'background actors' or 'support artists'. And for those who are about to embark on this wonderful experience, the best definition of extra work is a non-speaking role, with the ability to subtly enhance the background scene.

In most circumstances, extras are directed to walk, stand, run or sit while a scene is being filmed. Other times, you could be asked to dance at a concert, or portray a part in an outraged mob.

With the Goliath Warner Brothers and Screen Queensland studios being joined by the new Cairns complex, we can expect more production than ever in the Sunshine State.

Being an extra is a fun way to get paid while participating in screen magic. Joining QSC doesn't cost anything, and we're here to land you work in film that may suit your unique characteristics.

Some Things To Remember

Read over instructions carefully; QSC will advise you of what to wear, what clothing to avoid and where to be. Please arrive on time. It’s not a good look for yourself or QSC to arrive late to set, and hold up production. This could lead to termination.

Pay close attention to production; Once on set, the production crew will give you specific instruction on what you should be doing. Please follow direction.

Keep it on the downlow; In most cases, production will ask you not to approach the main actors, and not to take any photos. Please adhere by production requests.

Have a ball; extra work is a brilliant way to be among the action while, and even pick up a few film and tv tips, so have fun!
